Dr. Alex D. Michelson is a Board Certified Psychiatrist and the Medical Director of the Intensive Outpatient Program. He completed his psychiatric training at UCI Medical Center and his forensic fellowship at UCLA School of Medicine. Since 1997, Dr. Michelson has been in private practice in South Orange County. His expertise encompasses general psychiatry, including adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations. He provides psychopharmacology evaluations, as well as family and individual therapy. His special interest lies in medical-legal (forensic) issues, involving evaluations and testimony related to disability-conflicting employment, malpractice, hospital standards, sexual harassment, retirement defense, and will conflicts. Dr. Michelson is dedicated to offering a combination of clinical and forensic psychiatric services and strives to find individualized approaches for the complex spectrum of problems faced by his patients.

Dr. Michelson was born in Moscow, Russia. He graduated with a Medical Doctor degree from Moscow Medical School in 1990. He completed his psychiatric residency at UC Irvine Medical Center and a forensic fellowship at UCLA School of Medicine. His research experience includes serving as a Principal Investigator in pharmaceutical research clinical trials focused on ADHD. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, with board certifications #56597 and #1769 in Forensic Psychiatry.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Michelson holds academic and administrative appointments, including membership on the Physician Wellbeing Committee at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center and the Credentialing Committee for the Health Care Management Organisation. He is affiliated with Saddleback Memorial Medical Center and holds memberships with the American Academy of Psychiatry & the Law and the American Medical Association. Other significant roles include being an Attending Physician at the Psychiatric Emergency Services of RCRMC and serving as Chief Psychiatrist at the Forensic Alternative Community Treatment Program.

Dr. Michelson has been recognized as a guest speaker on topics such as Elder Abuse, Geriatric Competency, and Impulse Control Disorders at various institutions, including Saddleback Memorial Hospital, Adult Protective Services (Ombudsman Program), the Alzheimer’s Association, and the USC Institute of Psychiatry and Law. His research interests include Major Depression, Anxiety Conditions, ADHD, and medical-legal issues.
